Dual Hybrid/Packet Microwave
Aviat Networks' Eclipse is an all-in-one next generation dual hybrid and packet microwave radio which delivers advanced technology with an eye on lowering your total cost of ownership (TCO). Eclipse provides superior networking features to address cost-optimized mobile backhaul, public, and private networking applications, along with high performance RF and Carrier Ethernet capabilities to improve cost efficiency. Eclipse offers tremendous migration flexibility for long term investment protection and proven high reliability to lower your OPEX.
Lowering Your Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)

Superior and "Complete" Nodal Networking
Aviat Eclipse delivers a "complete" set of microwave nodal networking capabilities which conventional microwave systems are unable to fully address. Eclipse delivers tremendous multi-directional integrated microwave switching within a single system, supporting up to 3 RF or up to 12 Ethernet radios in a single rack unit, in comparison to non nodal systems which require multiple units to be stacked.
Eclipse also supports both native TDM and Ethernet services and provides fully integrated Ethernet switching and IP networking, eliminating the need for external TDM grooming or Ethernet aggregation devices.
Additionally, Eclipse can deliver greater than 2Gbps wireless transport with intelligent and fully integrated bandwidth optimization features like XPIC, ACM, and data compression, for a truly comprehensive nodal system that reduces your footprint and lowers your TCO.
High Performance Radio and Carrier Ethernet Combined
Aviat Eclipse offers several key features which optimize network performance to reduce overall networking costs. Eclipse can increases microwave link capacity with Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) which uses available fade margin to deliver more capacity per link. Eclipse supports dynamic and hitless modulation that adjusts to provide the highest capacity available with up to 8 modulation state options, and supports up to 256 QAM today with an evolution to 1024 QAM.
Aviat delivers the best in class RF performance for a universal ODU across multiple frequency bands with the ODU 600, which supports software adjustable base and high power in the same ODU with Aviat’s unique Flexible Power Mode (FPM) capability. Incremental power provides increased performance for improving link availability, throughput and/or distance.
Additionally, Eclipse provides a comprehensive suite of Carrier Ethernet capabilities including Advanced QoS, Packet Network Synchronization, Ethernet OAM, and Ethernet ring protection, to support the delivery of consistent CE services across both the metro core and access. This removes the barriers between fiber and microwave interworking for operators, while providing a smooth migration from TDM to All-IP/Ethernet.
Migration Flexibility for Investment Protection
Migration flexibility is inherent to Aviat’s DNA. Aviat Eclipse offers what we describe as liquid bandwidth allocation - empowering users to scale their capacity needs via software control, as needed. Further migration flexibility is available via software programmable allocation for transporting any mix of TDM and IP traffic, enabling users for example to transform Eclipse from a ‘hybrid radio’ into an ‘all-IP radio’ at their pace, provide tremendous long term investment protection.
Eclipse provides a high degree of modularity, demonstrated via the wide variety of user and radio interface options supported, with scalability from T1/E1 to GE, supporting the ability to add, change/re-configure interfaces as needed, with hot swappable, auto-configuring and protection options.
Complementing Eclipse, Aviat’s Provision management system provides comprehensive end-to-end Ethernet Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM) features to effectively plan for, and proactively manage growing Ethernet microwave networks, with the same certainty of TDM transport ones.
High Reliability That’s Proven
Eclipse has a proven track record for delivering highly reliable products having shipped over a quarter million units to global operators since 2004. In fact, Eclipse’s field proven mean time between failure (MTBF) based on actual units deployed greatly exceeds the target MTBF, as demonstrated by the ODU 300 with a field proven MTBF which exceeds 100 years! Eclipse has been engineered to deliver the highest quality and to withstand the toughest operational and deployment environments across the globe.
To maintain your investment, Aviat offers a full suite of Professional Services focused on minimizing your TCO and accelerating your time to market. Aviat offers a comprehensive Services Life-cycle approach - including managing your network 24X7 if desired.
A proven track record of supporting our global customers has earned Aviat the highest rating of any Microwave Specialist Provider in 2011 according to Infonetics Research.
